Last week marked a groundbreaking achievement for VAWT-X Energy, as we proudly announced the successful assembly of our innovative 6kW vertical axis wind turbine prototype, developed in collaboration with Flinders University. This first-of-its-kind prototype, made entirely in South Australia, represents a major step forward in clean energy technology.
The milestone was celebrated during a visit to the Factory of the Future at the Tonsley Innovation District by Federal Minister for Industry and Science, Ed Husic, and Federal Member for Boothby, Louise Miller-Frost. The delegation had the opportunity to see the turbine firsthand and hear about its cutting-edge design, which promises to transform the renewable energy sector. VAWT-X Managing Director Gary Andrews and Flinders University’s Dr. Amir Zanj presented the prototype, discussing its efficiency, potential applications, and its impact on the future of renewable energy.
The journey doesn’t end here. The prototype is now headed to a site near Tattachilla for rigorous field testing, facilitated by our partnership with CPB Contractors. This critical phase will validate the turbine’s performance and prepare it for commercial deployment.
Reflecting on this achievement, Managing Director Gary Andrews emphasized the progress made over two years of dedicated collaboration:
“This milestone would not have been possible without the support of our private investor, the South Australian and Federal Governments, and the expertise of our incredible team. We’re excited to take the next steps in bringing this eco-friendly innovation to market.”

In the accompanying video, Gary Andrews and Dr. Amir Zanj reflect on the journey of this groundbreaking project, its implications for the renewable energy landscape, and their vision for the future.
The video, which beautifully captures this achievement, was produced, filmed, and edited by Nathan Andrews.
